Kilim Multi 5953
The name Kelim comes from the Persian word 'Gelim'. Kilim rugs are not knotted, but woven. They therefore have no pile and often no front and back either, because both sides are the same. The advantage of this is that the rug can be turned over. Nomadic tribes often used the Kilim as a barrier at the entrance to their tents to keep the heat in. The materials used are mainly wool, but sometimes cotton is used for the warp threads. The quality and motifs of Kilims vary enormously. Cheerful colors are usually used for the often abstract motifs, which give the rug a 'Tribal-like' appearance. With Kilims you usually see that a 'space' is left between the different colors by the use of the warp threads (see detail photo).
