Ziegler Blue 4343
Ziegler rugs are originally from the Arak region of Iran (Persia), but are now only made in Afghanistan. They originate in the Ziegler Company from Manchester, who settled in the then Perzie in 1878-80 and tied carpets there to meet the Western demand for rugs with specific patterns, colors and dimensions. These rugs are adapted to the Western taste and are made specifically for exports. This explains the popularity in Europe and America. The production took place in the workshops of the Ziegler Company itself and not, as was usually the case, with the buttons at home. The ziellers that were tied until the First World War were finely knotted rugs in soft delicate colors. The rugs inspired various nomad families and nowadays they are produced in Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. The rugs, with their characteristic leaf and flower pattern, are all unique variations of harmoniously combined earth tones such as ocher, roasted Sienna, Indigo Blauw and Henna Oranje. To give the rugs the desired patina, they are first washed intensively and then dried in the sun.
